Expectations for CIVA Parents
A CIVA parent is defined as one or more caring, significant adults. As a CIVA parent, you are expected to:
-
Demonstrate a commitment to the CIVA School and its philosophy that stresses parents are the primary teachers, and the home is the primary classroom.
- Complete a written Commitment Statement at the time your student enrolls declaring your willingness to participate in the CIVA Family Program, which consists of community meetings, parent growth seminars, school events, student events, student-led conferences, and other volunteer programs.
- Understand the importance and relevance of personal growth in order to be the best possible models for students and to participate in a network of support that encourages trusting parent-to-parent relationships.
- Ask yourself the same questions we ask the students: "Who am I?" "Where am I going?" "How am I going to get there?" "How can I contribute?"
- Monitor the student's attendance by asking for progress reports, contacting staff members with concerns, and being aware of calls from the school reporting student absences.
- Designate a responsible adult guardian when you are away.
- Call in advance if a student must leave school prior to the end of the school day. This is very important for the safety of the student.
