The Al Oerter Award for Academic & Athletic Excellence is awarded to student athletes who best exemplify hard work, dedication, international interests, sportsmanship and community involvement. Our very own Kurt Brushe was awarded this prestigious honor based on his commitment to the traits that Al Oerter dedicated himself to. Al Oerter (1936-2007) was an Olympic Gold Medalist in the discus in 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968.
